The Costa Brava is full of spectacular spots. Dreamlike coves and beaches, castles that seem straight out of a fairy tale, breathtaking landscapes... There is no end to the tourist attractions on the Girona coastline. That's why we, at Naturaki, have decided to make a claim for it and we offer you 8 suggestions to discover the Costa Brava during winter.

Temple of Linné (Blanes)

8 things to do in Costa Brava during winter Photo: Botanical Garden of Marimurtra (Blanes)

Our route starts in Blanes, the first town on the Costa Brava. The town where the Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño lived for more than fifteen years and where we find a spectacularly beautiful garden: the Jardí Botànic Marimurtra. Although this space is already worth a visit and is a good reason to come to Blanes, we recommend that you look for the Templet de Linné, a small viewpoint in the form of a classically inspired temple dedicated to the botanist Carl von Linné, who systematize its nomenclature. This is an absolutely spectacular place that, we promise, will be a hit on social media. The views, by the way, are breathtaking.

Gala Dalí Castle (Púbol)

Second stop: Baix Empordà. Goal? Visit the Gala Dalí Castle without the hustle and bustle of beach tourism. It is a Gothic-Renaissance fortification from the 11th century that, in the 1970s, became Gala's residence and refuge. Dalí, in fact, could not enter unless he first requested it in writing. A mysterious and austere place that the surrealist artist took on the task of decorating and transforming. Although he never hid its dilapidated appearance. He actually used the walls and semi-collapsed ceilings to create mind-blowing spaces. Look at the baroque textiles, the pictorial representations on the murals, the antiques, the symbolism or the false architectures. Gala Dalí Castle forms part of the so-called Dalinian Triangle together with the House-Museum of Portlligat and the Dalí Theater-Museum of Figueres.

The Basses d'en Coll (L'Estartit)

If you feel like walking for a while, we recommend that you visit the Basses d'en Coll, two natural pools in the middle of the Montgrí Natural Park, the Medes Islands and the Baix Ter. Of course, you will have to warm up a bit but it will be worth it. Les basses d'en Coll is an area of wetlands next to the sea, with two mind-blowing natural pools. During the tour, which you can do on foot or by bike, you will be able to observe numerous species of birds (specially aquatic ones), such as flamingos and ospreys. If you like photography, go when the sun starts to set.

The Garoinada (Calella de Palafrugell)

If you visit Calella de Palafrugell during the winter, especially during the first three months of the year, you are practically obliged to try one of the menus of the Garoinada, the oldest gastronomic campaign in Catalonia. Josep Pla, in fact, wrote that there was nothing better than eating garoines (sea urchins) with black sausage, tender garlic, bread and wine with the porrón. This year the menu consists of a starter of sea urchins, 'Catxoflino' as a main dish or an alternative dish and a cream dessert. All accompanied by a good wine from the Certificate of origin Empordà. An ideal gastronomic experience for sea lovers.

Windoor (Empuriabrava)

Do you want to learn to fly? Our fifth recommendation for enjoying the Costa Brava in winter is that, if you don't have vertigo, dare to try the Empuriabrava wind tunnel. It's an amazing experience to get to know, more or less, what a bird feels when it flies. Although wind tunnels were born out of the need to design and test new shapes and elements before pilots get into real planes, at Windoor they have managed to find the leisure aspect. The experience includes a preparatory masterclass, the flight and a final diploma. In addition, Windoor Empuriabrava records everything in videos and photographs. Do you dare?

Montgrí Castle (Torrella de Montgrí)

Montgrí Castle, one of the most representative castles on the Costa Brava, is a military fortification located at the top of the small Montgrí mountain and built between 1294 and 1301 by King Jaume II. We recommend you visit it, for two reasons: First, because the castle is spectacular. It looks like something out of a fairy tale of princesses and knights.. But, in addition, the climb is ideal for doing it in winter, since during most of the journey you will not find a single shaded area. You will need to wear good shoes, because the whole path is pure rock, but once you are at the top the views over the Empordà and the Medes islands are breathtaking.

Fly in a hot-air balloon over the Empordà (Colomers)

Would you like to see the landscapes that inspired artists and poets from a different point of view? To enjoy Costa Brava in a different way? We recommend that you try a hot air balloon ride at least once in your life. You will have to be a little early, as the flight starts at eight in the morning, which is when the atmosphere is more stable and less windy, but the experience is worth it and you will enjoy an hour of tranquility and absolute peace. During the flight, the pilots will tell you the secrets of the Costa Brava, they will give you a small breakfast and, upon landing, you will be given a diploma and the photographs taken from the ground and from the air. Unforgettable!

Stroll along Camins de Ronda (Palamós)

8 things to do in Costa Brava during winter Photo: Cala s'Alguer (Palamós)

Can you imagine walking the Camí de Ronda without meeting your neighbor with his family and without sweating a lot? It is possible if you go in winter. We recommend the stretch that links Playa de la Fosca, in Palamós, to Playa Castell, which is one of the few that remain undeveloped, and you will discover some of the best beaches and coves in Palamós. We recommend it, above all, because you will pass by Cala s'Alguer, a completely unspoiled beach that, thanks to the colorful houses around it, forms a picture of incomparable beauty. In fact, it was declared by the Generalitat de Catalunya as a Cultural Asset of National Interest. It must be for a reason. Once you arrive at Playa Castell you can make a half turn or, if you feel like it, continue to Calella. Have a good trip!

For the coldest days or when the weather doesn't cooperate, and you don't want to stay indoors, we recommend a visit to one of the museums on the Costa Brava.
