What can you do in l'Aleixar and its Holiday cottages?

L'Aleixar has a distinctly Saracen past. However, it is not until 1153 when the first written documents of the town appear. The town's medieval past can be seen reflected in its streets, which captivated the painter Joaquim Mir and the writer Marià Manent.

The landscape of l'Aleixar is entirely rural. Walking through its agricultural fields you can find old farms and farmhouses . One of the best known is Mas de Borbó, a large farmhouse with a chapel and a large oak tree.

Visit its churches and chapels

In the center of the town you can find religious buildings that are in a very good state of conservation. One of the most outstanding is the parish church of Sant Martí. Although it was built at the beginning of the 18th century, the history of this building goes back to the end of the 12th century. The old building was Romanesque, however, it currently has a Baroque style. Another well-known building is the hermitage of Sant Blai. Its construction dates from the 16th century. Unfortunately, during the Spanish Civil War, its interior was destroyed.

Discover its mills

Agriculture is one of the main economic activities in Aleixar. In fact, this town is one of the main hazelnut producers in Camp de Tarragona. One of the main attractions of the town are its flour mills. Some of the best known are the Pigat mill which is from the 16th century or the Fernando mill.
