The name Alforja comes from the Arabic and means splendid panorama. In fact, this is due to the fact that the municipality is located on a hill 347 meters high, which means that it has splendid views of the region.

Its long historical tradition means that there are many monuments and historical buildings spread throughout the town. However, the vast majority are concentrated in their historic center. Its parishes and chapels stand out. Its proximity to the forest offers you the possibility of walking routes where you can enjoy some of the best natural places in the area.

Alforja is surrounded by lush forests. From the center of town there are several walking routes that will allow you to see historic buildings such as the hermitage of Puigcerver or Sant Antoni, as well as lookouts such as the top of Rocabruna, from where you will have a 360º view of the Costa Daurada.

In the center of town you will find Plaça del Mercadal and Plaça de Dalts. They are two of the most emblematic areas and where you will find buildings such as the parish church of Sant Miquel. A building that dates from 1637 and has a Renaissance style. You must also see the House of Culture. It used to be the old hospital and dates back to 1747.
