A city with two thousand years of history full of corners that are worth seeing. This is Girona, the capital of Gironès, a city that has the magic of big cities while maintaining the essence of villages.
If you spend a few days in a holiday cottages in Girona, there are a few essentials that you cannot miss: First, the Old Quarter , one of the most evocative medieval historic centers in Catalonia. The cathedral , dedicated to Santa Maria, the Jewish street , one of the best preserved in Europe and the basilica of Sant Feliu . Near the basilica you will find the Arab Baths , which constitute the best-preserved civil Romanesque complex in Catalonia. Inside the Old Quarter we will also find the monastery of Sant Pere de Galligants , which houses one of the most interesting cloisters of Catalan Romanesque art. You also can't miss the Onyar houses , one of the city's best-known photos, or the Lion's Ass . It is also interesting to see the Peixateries Velles bridge or walk along the Rambla or get lost in the Devesa, the largest urban park in Catalonia.
Fancy visiting a few museums? Grab a notebook and pen! If you like Romanesque and Gothic art, you can visit the Girona Art Museum, located in the old Episcopal Palace of Girona. It has, by the way, the third most important art collection of these two periods in Catalonia. If you prefer archaeology, you can visit the monastery of Sant Pere Galligants , home of the Museum of Archeology of Catalonia in Girona. If you want to discover the history of the city, visit the History Museum of Girona , located in the old convent of Sant Antoni from the 18th century. Inside, you can take a tour of the city's history: from its foundation in Roman times to the Franco regime. And finally, if you want a different visit, you can't miss the Cinema Museum , where you can take a tour through the history of the seventh art.
