Albesa was under Saracen rule until 1120, when it passed into Christian hands. During the Carlist wars, the Carlist troops took refuge in the ruins of the castle. Agriculture is one of the main economic activities of the town. Its proximity to the Noguera Ribagorçana river allows you to take walks along its riverbed and enjoy a natural landscape of great beauty.

Visit the Roman village of Romeral

The Roman legacy is very present in Albesa. The remains of a Roman village have been found in the area of Romeral and Torre-sulla. It is a site that dates back to the 4th century BC and that was a Roman villa with dimensions of 3000 square meters. It stands out for its set of mosaics, of which one with the head of a jellyfish stands out.

Discover its religious heritage

Within the town center of Albesa you can find a set of buildings and monuments that have a great historical value. The church of Our Lady of the Assumption stands out. It is a late 18th century building that still retains the 12th century Romanesque facade. Its building consists of three naves and houses a Gothic altarpiece from the 14th century. Very close to the church are the remains of the castle. Today, you can see the walls, the remains of a cistern and part of one of the towers.
