The authentic story of Sant Jordi

We all know the legend of Sant Jordi , but have you ever wondered where all this history comes from?
Jordi was a knight who died on April 23 of the year 303, who refused to persecute the Christians and for that reason he was tortured and beheaded. That was when he became a martyr and after his death, fantastic stories began to be told about his character, it wasn't until much later that he became the official patron saint of Catalonia.

The legend of Sant Jordi: the knight and the dragon

The story of the knight and the dragon is the best known and the one we continue to tell to the little ones in the house. This Catalan legend is about a knight who had a fierce fight with a great dragon, after a hard fight to the death, the knight came out victorious after stabbing him with his sword, from the blood that licked from the dragon that fell on the ground, from there sprouted a large rose bush that produced exceptional roses every April.

The rose and book stalls, Sant Jordi's Day

The rose has always been a symbol among lovers, and red the color of passion, which makes the rose the perfect symbol for St George's Day . The fact of tying the book to the day was a subsequent choice after all this, in fact it was the same Barcelona booksellers who, for the reason of the day of the book, linked it to April 23, Sant Jordi's day , done that it was quite a success and that it continues to be today, as it is a great economic boost in the bookselling world and where many of the authors spend the day signing books, which means that many readers take the opportunity to go and meet them and they make St George's Day a very special day.

In the beginning it was common for the rose to be for the woman and the book for the man, which with the change and modernization of the times has evolved and within the symbolism of the rose and the book between man and woman, it is now common that they give books to women, men or the other way around, times change and Sant Jordi's day also adapts to the new times, what counts is that this special and ours day continues to be celebrated in Catalonia .

AlbertEl Portaló de Cantallops - With the family

A fantastic, charming house to enjoy and relax in

We spent the weekend with family to celebrate a special birthday. The house, the surroundings, everything was perfect... A charming, well-equipped stone terraced house. So why not 5 stars? First, because the mattresses aren’t comfortable. You can sleep, yes, but depending on your back, don’t expect to get much rest. It should be said that some of the mattresses were in good condition, but others weren’t. It rained a lot over the weekend, and one of the bedrooms had some serious leaks. They woke us up; we cleaned up as best we could, using a bucket and so on. We informed the owner, and she told us she hadn’t been aware of it (and I believe her!). So, it’s a highly recommendable house, and you’re sure to enjoy it very much. We hope they fix the leaks, and with two or three new mattresses, it would be a 10/10!.

Homeowners’ response: Thank you very much, Albert, for sharing your experience and for celebrating such a special occasion at the house. We’re sorry about the leaks, especially as the rain was very heavy that weekend; we’re looking into it to find a solution. We’ll also take your comment about the mattresses into account and check which ones need replacing. In any case, we’re glad you enjoyed the house and its surroundings and that you’ll take home fond memories of your stay.

Maria Del MarCan Tuta Vell - With the family

Have a very nice stay at Can Tuta Vell

We had a wonderful stay. The house is comfortable, cozy and spacious. The owner is very kind and has been concerned about our well-being, as our stay coincided with the torrential rains of the first weekend in October.

Homeowners’ response: Maria del Mar, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m glad to hear you felt so comfortable in the house, especially considering the rain you had during your stay. It was a pleasure having you as guests, and I hope you’ll get to enjoy the house in sunnier weather another time!

Peace and divine natural surroundings

A spacious house, with plenty of natural light and easy access to the pool from several rooms, all of them large and equipped with wardrobes, heating, air conditioning... A large kitchen with a table for meals, if desired. We missed having some kitchen roll. That was the only thing, though. We needed a few days of peace and quiet, and there we were able to enjoy them, gazing at the vastness of those enchanting sunsets...

Homeowners’ response: We’re glad to hear you found the peace you were looking for and enjoyed the house and those sunsets. Kitchen roll is included in the basic welcome kit, which contains one roll of kitchen paper, two rolls of toilet paper per bathroom, dish soap, dishwasher tablets, and a few garbage bags to help you get your stay started. Thank you for sharing your experience.

MarionaMas Verdaguer - With the family

Ideal house with truck acoustics

The house gets a 10. We had a great stay. Everything was very well equipped; nothing was missing. But nowhere did it mention that the motorway ran nearby, and you could really hear it.

Homeowners’ response: Mariona, we’re glad to hear you enjoyed the house and found it so well equipped. We’re sorry the motorway noise disturbed you during your stay. This isn’t a common complaint among guests at the house, but we’ll review it to see whether we need to include this information on the website so that this aspect is clearer.
