Playa del Miracle (Tarragona)
The city of Tarragona has a specific area for dogs at the Playa del Miracle, located next to the Fortín de la Reina. The space has a showers for animals and a limited capacity. During the peak season, it's one of the most practical options if you want to combine an urban day with a good dog swim.
From June until mid-October.
Playa Llarga (Tarragona)
We continue in Tarragona. The popular Llarga Beach has a designated stretch of approximately 900 square meters located in the area by the bridge to the Cala Romana (rocky stretch). This space includes a wooden perimeter fence and metal fences and showers for dogs, among other services. However, the maximum capacity is 43 dogs.
This area is available from May 29 to October 15.
Playa de la Riera d'Alforja (Cambrils)
An urban beach located next to the Riera d'Alforja and the fishing port. It is characterised by its coarse sand and crystal-clear waters. It has several services, such as rental of sunbeds and awnings, and a designated dog area. If you like sports, there are basketball courts right on the beach, ideal for having a good time with the kids.

Playa de la Punta del Riu (Mont-roig del Camp)
Another one of the best pet-friendly beaches is Punta del Riu beach, located in Miami Platja, in Mont-roig del Camp. It is a beach with fine golden sand, 223 meters long. It offers a wide range of water sports and is ideal for the whole family (dogs included, of course).

Torrota cove (Roda de Berà)
This beach is next to the camí de Ronda (Ronda path) and has a well-signposted access. However, be careful because it is formed by rocks and is not very well conditioned. When you arrive, you will see a fairly small beach made up of rock and fine sand, which practically disappears at high tide. At low tide, however, it is worth a visit if you want to enjoy a good swim or some quiet time with your pet. Ideal for those who flee from the crowds in summer.

Playa de Barri Marítim (Torredembarra)
It is the Barri Marítim beach in Torredembarra, this beach is about 2,000 m2 and is equipped with a perimeter fence, a fountain, and a shower specially designed for pets. Next to the beach is the maritime club where you can practise different water activities as well as gastronomic and leisure services.
From June until the end of September, with no time restrictions.
Playa de Ponent (Salou)
The municipality of Salou has 3 urban beaches along its promenade: Playa de Llevant, Playa dels Capellans, one of the best beaches on the Costa Daurada, and Playa de Ponent. All of them have the characteristics that define the beaches of the Costa Daurada: fine golden sand and crystal-clear shallow waters. Playa de Ponent is the one that has a designated dog friendly area. It is a good option if you are looking for a beach close to all the services and gastronomic proposals offered by a tourist centre such as Salou.
From May until the first Sunday of November, with no time restrictions.
Altafulla Beach (Altafulla)
Altafulla opts for a different approach. There is no exclusive area for dogs, but there are specific time slots during which their presence on the beach is allowed. Access is, therefore, restricted to two specific time slots during the day to avoid peak times for bathers: from 07:00 to 08:30 h and from 22:00 to 23:30 h.
From April to October, from 7.00 to 8.30 h and from 22.00 to 23.30 h.
Dog-friendly beaches in Terres de l'Ebre
Playa del Arenal (L'Ampolla)
At the entrance of the Delta de l'Ebre Natural Park, you will find Playa del Arenal, within the Fangar bay. Two kilometres long, it is a beach where calm and tranquillity reign and it has basic services such as beach bars, lifeguards, showers, toilets, rental of umbrellas, deck chairs, and boat rentals.

Cala Bon Caponet (Ametlla de Mar)
Bon Caponet cove was the first dog-friendly beach in Tarragona. It is a small and quite cosy cove, surrounded by trees and rocky areas. A cove, as you will see, ideal to triumph on Instagram or be the most popular in the WhatsApp group of friends. It is ideal for those who seek a place of tranquillity and flee from the crowds. Its waters are crystal clear, and the sand is gravel. You can get there on foot or by car.

Cala del Cementiri (Ametlla de Mar)
The Cementiri cove, in the north of the municipality, is located very close to the cemetery (as its name suggests), in a little urbanised area. It is a small cove, only 20 metres long, and completely rocky. It is actually more intended for enjoying some time in the water with your pet and cooling off than for spending the day on the towel sunbathing. Although, of course, the decision is yours! You can access it on foot or by car. There are no services available.

Playa La Platjola (Alcanar)
The municipality of Alcanar has a dog-friendly beach: La Platjola. On this beach, pets are welcome from 6 PM to 11 AM. Dogs have restricted access to the beach from 11 AM to 6 PM.
Easter and summer (from mid-June to mid-September)
Playa del Garbí (La Ràpita)
On this urban beach, right in front of the same promenade of La Ràpita, there is a dog-friendly area close to the port. From the beach, you can enjoy views of the Bay of Alfacs and Punta de la Banya in the background.
From June 15th onward.
Playa de Eucaliptus (Amposta)
This beach is more than 5 km long and 200 metres wide. It has two dog-friendly areas (one at each end of the beach). It is an ideal beach to enjoy peace and quiet in an unspoilt natural environment next to the Delta de l'Ebre Natural Park.
Both areas are available from June to September.
Can I go to the beach with my dog out of season?
One of the most common questions is whether dogs can go to any beach during the rest of the year. The answer is that, in many municipalities, yes. When the high bathing season ends, numerous localities loosen restrictions and allow dogs to access much of the coast.
However, the dates vary according to each town council. For this reason, it is always advisable to check the municipal regulations before visiting a specific beach. In protected natural areas, especially in the Ebro Delta, specific regulations may exist to protect biodiversity.
Tips for going to the beach with your dog
A day at the sea can be a fantastic experience for your four-legged companion, but it's good to keep in mind some basic recommendations.
- Always bring fresh water.
- Avoid peak heat hours.
- Look for shaded areas or bring a parasol.
- Rinse them with fresh water after swimming to remove the salt.
- Ensure they don't drink sea water.
- Always pick up their waste and keep the environment clean.
- Respect other beach-goers.
- Keep them controlled if they are not used to interacting with other dogs.
