Xerta is a village in the Baix Ebre
that has a great agricultural activity. It stands out for its citrus crops such as lemon and orange trees. Although it is a small municipality, its Holiday cottages offer you all the necessary comforts
to enjoy your holidays with the family. If you want to see the Ebre river up close and discover a natural environment with great charm , don't miss the opportunity to stay in one of our Holiday cottages.
What can you do in Xerta and its Holiday cottages?
The town of Xerta has a long history. It has suffered looting in different wars such as the War of Independence or the Carlist wars. During the Spanish Civil War it was an area of high military activity as can be seen in the trenches of Barranc dels Fornets.
In Xerta you will find numerous hiking routes that cross an entirely agricultural landscape. The green route is one of the most popular routes. If you go in the spring you can see how the orange blossom permeates the air of the fields with its aroma. Xerta fruit is well known throughout the territory. We recommend you try their oranges. You will love them!
Visit the assud
One of the most important works of hydraulic engineering on the Ebro River is the assud. It is a rush that is approximately 310 meters long. Cross the river diagonally from side to side. Its function is to divert water from the Ebre river towards the right and left channels. As a curious fact you should know that its history begins in the Islamic era. Later in the 12th century it was restored and it wasn't until the 19th century that work was done to lead the water to the canals.
Take the Green Way
The Via Verda is an old railway route that is now disused. It has been converted into a route that you can do on foot or by bike. Along the route you will be able to see old train stations and numerous tunnels as well as a landscape with great appeal.
