Tortosa was under Arab rule until 1148. One of the most emblematic monuments is the Castell de la Suda, declared of National Interest. Its name comes from the 14 meter deep well that supplies the castle with water. Under the castle are the remains of a Roman acropolis and the only Arab cemetery that has been found in Catalunya.

In the Remolins district you will find the old Jewish quarter where buildings such as the synagogue or the Jewish portal are still preserved. There are also examples of modernist architecture in the municipal market, Casa Bau or Casa Greco.

Tortosa is a town where numerous festivals and exhibitions are held. At the olive oil promotional fair you will be able to taste different varieties of olive oil from protected designations of origin and local products. Another very important festival is the Renaissance Festival , where the city revives the 16th century, one of the most glorious moments in its history. Tortosa's Festa Major is dedicated to Our Lady of the Ribbon . It lasts nine days and several processions are held as well as plays or concerts.
