Sorry, but we don't have any accommodation in Vallès Oriental
Vestiges of human populations dating back four thousand years have been found. During the 16th and 17th centuries, it experienced strong economic growth. However, during the third Carline war, many of its municipalities suffered significant damage. From the 19th century, with the construction of roads and the railway line, the region consolidated itself as an important industrial and commercial center.
The range of activities you can do in Vallès Oriental is very wide. On the one hand, you have many natural spaces where you can go hiking, mountain biking or practice adventure sports. On the other hand, there are many museums where you can learn more about the artistic and cultural heritage of the region. Granollers, its capital with an important modernist heritage, is a must-see. If you are passionate about the motor in Montmeló there is the Circuit de Catalunya. Don't forget to try the local cuisine or experience some of the popular festivals that are celebrated in their towns throughout the year.
Granollers is a city where you will find a wide commercial and cultural offer. The weekly Thursday market is worth checking out. It is a multi-sector gathering that brings together more than 450 stalls. The Granollers Museum is also very interesting, a space with an important archaeological fund, works of art and numismatics. Around the city you will find medieval buildings such as Porxada, an old grain market or the Gothic church of Sant Esteve. Don't forget to visit modernist buildings such as the new Hospital, Can Clapés or Can Miquel Blanxart.
In different parts of the territory of Vallès Oriental spring thermal waters that have important medicinal properties. This has meant that since Roman times there has been a considerable spa tradition. In the municipalities of Caldes de Montbui or La Garriga you will find thermal centers that offer different treatments for body well-being. Don't forget to visit Thermalia, a museum that is dedicated to thermalism and where you can see ancient Roman baths.
In Cardedeu there is the Tomàs Balvey Archive Museum. Descendant of a well-known family of apothecaries, Tomàs Balvey created this museum with different archaeological remains, architectural elements, old furniture or tools that he collected. The museum also has an important fund of scrolls and a collection of pharmaceutical jars that date from the beginning of the 19th century.
Modernism has left a strong mark on Vallès Oriental. A good option to discover the different modernist works of the municipalities is to take the Raspall route. This itinerary takes you through the different summer buildings of the well-known architect MJ Raspall. Some of the elements you can see are Can Millet in L'Ametlla del Vallès, the Barbey house in La Garriga or the Rovellat house in Cardedeu.
The natural environment of Vallès Oriental is conducive to adventure sports. In the various municipalities, you will find companies that organize outdoor activities such as climbing, caving or canyoning. On the other hand, if you want to see the region from the air, you can take a balloon flight. On the other hand, if you are looking for quieter sports, there are also golf courses.
One of the main attractions of the region is its gastronomy. One of the most well-known dishes is the cap-i-pota with samfaina and tripa i pota. We also recommend the sausages from La Garriga. Precisely in many of the municipalities of the region, the famous crocheted beans are grown, which are highly appreciated on a culinary scale. For cheese lovers, high-quality artisanal cheeses are made in LLinars. It's worth trying the tiles from Granollers, a pastry-based sweet that is filled with chocolate, or the borregos and carquinyolis from Cardedeu. Bon Appetit!
Nature is very present in Vallès Oriental. Many of the spas are surrounded by lush forests where you can take long, quiet walks. You can't miss the Montseny Natural Park. It is one of the most important green spaces in Catalonia. The beauty of its landscapes and the great diversity of plant and animal species that it houses have meant that it has been declared a World Biosphere Reserve. Another must-see is the Natural Park of Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac. There are more than three hundred caves and chasms here, which makes it perfect for caving.
Traditions and popular culture are deeply rooted in the region. Fairs and very popular festivals are held in many of the towns. The Castellterçol dance and the Ciri dance stand out. It is an act where six couples dance two solemn dances that date from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is also very interesting to experience the rivalry between the White and Blue gangs at the Granollers Festival.
The orography of Vallès Oriental is perfect for hiking lovers. In the region you will find more than 34 signposted routes with different levels of difficulty. This means that you have more than a thousand kilometers of itineraries to do with the family and that you can also do with a mountain bike. If you like challenges, four long-distance trails pass through different parts of the territory. Specifically, they are the GR-2, GR-5, GR-92 and GR-97.
If you are a motor lover, Montmeló is home to the Circuit de Catalunya. In its facilities, you can not only watch Formula 1 or motorcycling races, but you can also participate in one of the driving courses that are organized at the Circuit. Guided tours are also organized where you can get to know all the facilities and restricted access spaces in detail.
