The first written references to Torroja del Priorat are from the year 1270. During part of its history it was part of Escaladei. Later, it passed into the hands of the Count of Prades. One of the most popular cultural events held in this municipality are the Jocs Florals, which bring together poets from all the Catalan Countries.

Wine culture is also deeply rooted in this population. You can take advantage and visit some of the wineries you will find throughout its territory and taste their wines with DO Priorat.

Visit its historical heritage

Torroja del Priorat preserves much of its historical heritage. One of the best-known buildings is the parish church of Sant Miquel. It was built in the 18th century and combines a neoclassical style with baroque elements. Inside is an organ from the year 1800, which is considered one of the most historic in Catalonia. If you visit the Joan Pàmies museum you can see a collection of field tools and other utensils that have been used to make wine.

Take a hiking route

From the center of the town there are several paths that cross the Priorat and reach nearby towns such as Gratallops, Vilella Alta or Vilella Baixa. Many of them have a very low level of difficulty and can be done on foot or by bike, so they are perfect to do with the family.
