The first written documents in which reference is made to Santa Maria d'Oló are from the year 889. Subsequently, with the construction of the castle, the first population center originated. Agriculture and livestock have been two of the main economic activities of this population. You cannot leave without tasting the gastronomy based on traditional local and Catalan dishes.
Modernism has left its mark on Santa Maria d'Oló. Walking through the town center you can see buildings by Puig i Cadalfac or Eduard Balcells that are part of its modernist heritage. On the other hand, there is also an important baroque legacy. One of the greatest exponents is the parish church where an altarpiece is preserved in perfect condition.
Santa Maria d'Oló is surrounded by a natural environment that invites you to take long walks. From the center of the town there are paths that go into lush forests and that cross cultivated fields that allow you to enjoy a rural landscape of great beauty. All over the territory you will see small Romanesque-style churches and hermitages as well as stone huts, a clear vestige of the village's rural tradition.
