Roses is a municipality in Alt Empordà with almost 20,000 inhabitants located at the end of a large bay, called the Bay of Roses.
The municipality has several emblematic sights that you cannot leave without visiting: the Passeig Marítim, the archaeological complex of Ciutadella de Roses, the Castell de la Trinitat, very beautiful coves and beaches such as Del Bonifaci or Cala Lladó... All these places are located a few kilometers from the tourist accommodation and rural houses to be able to enjoy the town of Roses
At the beginning of the 4th century BC, a Greek colony from Marseille settled in the territory, and Rhode (Roses) was founded here. The objective was simple and straightforward: to establish a commercial presence and obtain the resources of the territory. The Greeks were very active in the pottery industry, cattle breeding, agricultural production and fish salting.
The following centuries were also characterised by colonisation. The Greek empire fell in the 7th century, and Roses fell in the hands of the Visigoths. They founded a citadel on one of the peaks of the Puig Rom mountain. Years later, the Arabs and the Franks also passed through Roses and ended up settling in the county of Empúries in the middle of the s. X, in this way came the end of the lordly regime.
The most beautiful part of Roses is, probably, the archaeological complex of the Citadel of Roses. This place gathers a large part of the city's history: it was built to protect the town from pirate attacks. The ticket costs 4 euros and includes the visit to the seventeen hectares of the site and its museum.
The Passeig Marítim, located on Nova beach, is a small route that takes you to the port area, where you can take a walk and see all the boats that are moored there. In the shape of a crescent, the promenade borders a part of the large Gulf of Roses, creating a space of beaches with calm waters perfect for spending a few hours relaxing with your loved ones.
Platja del Bonifaci, Canyelles Petites and Canyelles Grosses are some of the most impressive beaches and coves in Roses. However, the most amazing are the small beaches and coves that few people know about and that you only discover by walking along the Camí de Ronda. However, other lovely coves in this area perfect for snorkeling are Cala Rostella and Cala Montjoi.
Another must-see in the city is the Camí de Ronda (GR 92) which runs along the sea. If you have a whole morning or a whole day, getting lost in the charm of the road is the best thing you can do to get to know and discover the area's wonderful coves and beaches. This part, specifically, starts at the Roses' lighthouse and ends at Cala Montjoi. The total distance is about 8 kilometres, but usually the most common is the one that goes from PuntaFalconera to Cala Rostella.

Cadaqués is much more than a village to bathe on the beach. The beaches of Cadaqués are very rocky, but near the worldwide known picturesque village we find the bay of Portlligat with the island that lies ahead and of which Salvador Dalí was its best known inhabitant. There you will discover the Dali Museum house, where he lived, surrounded by forests and vegetation, a good starting point if you want to access some beautiful beaches around like Cala Sabolla (before the lighthouse Cala Nans). It is not difficult to access and is ideal for rest and relaxation. Here you can find one of the bests “chiringuitos” of Costa Brava.A route through 7 lighthouses on the Costa Brava
