In Montseny you will find a wide variety of rural houses, where you can enjoy nature in its purest state. The flora and fauna that coexist in the Montseny region is very varied, which makes this area of Catalonia the ideal place for fans of mountains and hiking, as we can find a large number of walking routes and by bicycle. In this way, the rural houses of this territory are well occupied throughout the year.
The human occupation of Montseny is not early. Axes and stone knives have been found in Aiguafreda and Sant Marçal dating back millions of years, specifically from prehistory. Megaliths have also appeared in the Serra de l'Arca and the Pinedes, or the stellate stone in the Plan de la Calma, which reaffirm this.
During the Iberian interval the population of the hills began to gain strength step by step, and demography made its way to the mountains. An example is the castle on Montgrós hill and the fortified settlements of Montclús in Sant Esteve de Palautordera and also in Samalús. On the other hand, we also have evidence of life during the Roman era, as is the case with the construction of the Roman Villa of Can Tarrés.
However, it wasn't until the Middle Ages that settlement became widespread in the interior of Montseny , probably thanks to the exploitation of the area's natural resources. In the 19th century, however, the process reaches its highest point, but it ends up falling, thus starting a long and slight depopulation to this day.
Currently, however, although agricultural, livestock and forestry activities are on the decline, other activities, such as rural tourism or catering, are gaining strength and arriving in Montseny to stay there for a few decades and fill a page of his beautiful story.
The Montseny Natural Park is an ideal place for hiking. El Turó de l'Home, el Matagalls, Les Agudes and el Turó de Samon are some of the peaks best known and most frequented by the most lovers of heights and nature.
Selva Aventura is an adventure park on the Revell pass ideal for ages 5 and up, but also suitable for all ages. It is a set of fun circuits through the trees that allow us to discover the forest in a way that we are not used to. During the summer Selva de l'Aventura operates every day, and from September to June during the weekends. The price is very reasonable: children up to 9 pay €9, 10 to 18 pay €12, and adults pay €14.
The Montseny Beer, brewed in small crafts in a microbrewery in the area, organises tours and tastings at Sant Miquel de Balenyà. The visit, which costs 13€ per person, includes an explanation of the brewing process, a tour of the brewery's facilities and beer tasting.
