The history of Montagut i Oix and its surroundings

Although archaeological remains have been found that demonstrate the human presence as early as the Neolithic, we do not find mention of Montagut i Oix until the Middle Ages, when the castles of Montagut de Fluvià and Oix were actually built. The second, by the way, was attacked in 1462 by peasants during the War of the Remences. Montagut de Fluvià and Oix were two independent municipalities until 1972. In 2002 they adopted the current name of Montagut i Oix.
