The history of Molins de Rei begins in 1188. During the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to the construction of the Charles III bridge, it became an important communication hub as it was a mandatory stop on the Barcelona - Madrid route.
Within the historical heritage of Molins de Rei, its stately homes stand out. One of the best known is that of Ca n'Ametller which dates from the 19th century. Another relevant building is the Municipal Market. It is the work of the architect Joan Gumà and combines brick and stone, which gives it a unique image.
The Municipal Museum was founded in 1953. It is located in the textile factory of Can Samaranch. In its facilities you can see textile pieces from different periods. There is also a section dedicated to history in which a set of archaeological pieces from the sites of the Vall Baixa del Llobregat are displayed. On the other hand, in the ethnographic section you will find utensils related to historical trades such as boter or espardenyer.
One of the most popular fairs in Molins de Rei is the Fira de la Candelera. It has almost two centuries of history and you can find a display of agricultural machinery or livestock and also a food and wine fair or flea market. Popular meals, dances and other popular activities are also organized.
