The first written documents in which reference is made to Masquefa are from the year 963. The name Masquefa has an Arabic origin and means fertile land. One of the most interesting places in the town is the Amphibious and Reptile Recovery Center of Catalunya. It is dedicated to the rehabilitation of wild fauna to later return them to their natural habitat. The center organizes activities for schools and groups in order to make the world of reptiles and amphibians known.
Masquefa has an important religious heritage. The church of Sant Pere y la Santa Creu is a must-see. Its beginnings date back to the year 963. The building has a single covered nave with a barrel vault. Inside it houses Romanesque elements from the twelfth century. Another outstanding building is the church of Sant Pere. It was built between 1922 and 1925. Its bell tower is rectangular and inside it preserves a baptismal font with the coat of arms of Barcelona.
Throughout the year, festivals and fairs are organized in Masquefa which are very popular. On Easter Monday , the Gathering is held at the Old Cemetery where sardanas and a popular rib-eye are also made. During the Grape Festival, Masquefa's origins related to the vineyard and the countryside are remembered. In addition, local wineries and confectioners present their products.
