Visit the monastery of Santa Maria

L'Estany has an important historical heritage. The monastery of Santa Maria is one of the most emblematic buildings. It was founded in 1080 and its church and cloister are a jewel of Catalan Romanesque. In fact, the cloister was built in the twelfth century and has seventy-two capitals. Around the cloister you can see outbuildings such as the library or the rectory. On the outskirts of the monastery there are stone houses from the 17th century with gabled portals.

The natural environment that you will find in l'Estany is perfect for hiking. From the center of the town there are different paths and trails that go through leafy forests. One of the best known is the GR-177 which runs in a circular way throughout the region. You can also take a route to Santa Maria d'Oló and pass through places where you can see native vegetation.
