During the 17th century it suffered numerous attacks by pirates and bandits. In the War of Succession it was burned by the Bourbon troops in retaliation for its support to Charles III. Until the 19th century Freginals was part of Ulldecona . It was in 1843 when it became independent.

The Església de Sant Bartomeu was built during the 18th century to replace the old church. Its facade is in the Baroque style and its interior has only one nave in the Gothic style. On Calle Major is the casa Martí i Miralles. It was rebuilt in 1728 and still retains much of its pavement. The Casa de la Cultura is the current headquarters of the Centre d'interpretació de la Serra del Montsià. A space dedicated to spreading the values of this natural space and the importance it has had since the Iberian era.

Enjoy the Montsià mountains

Located to the south of the Ebre, the Montsià mountain range is 20 kilometers long. One of its most emblematic spaces is the Foradada, a viewpoint that is 700 meters above sea level and offers splendid views of the Delta de l'Ebre.
