The Masnou has its origins in the Iberian and Roman civilization. Fishing has been one of its main economic activities. Given that it is very close to Barcelona city, it is a perfect place for weekend stays. One of the main attractions of the municipality is its sports port where you can find a wide range of water sports such as sailing. There is also a very varied gastronomic offer that suits all palates.
Walking through the old town of el Masnou you can see buildings that were built between the years 1840 and 1930. One of the best known is the church of Sant Pere, which dates from the 18th century. The Casa de la Vila was built in the 19th century and commemorates the independence of the municipality. Other buildings that you must see are the Marquis' house or the House of Culture.
The world of the sea has great relevance in el Masnou. If you visit the Municipal Nautical Museum you will be able to see a whole series of collections that are dedicated to history, archeology and the nautical world. On the other hand, the museum also has an exhibition of materials used by ancient sailors.
