Although the origins of the heather lie in Prehistory, it is not until the year 899 when the first written documents appear. During the War of the French, the inhabitants of the town defeated the invading Napoleonic troops. A must-see is the church of Santa Maria del Bruc, a building with a Romanesque bell tower that houses interesting wall paintings.
One of the most relevant battles of el Bruc is the one that took place in 1808. According to legend, the echo caused by a tympanum scared the French troops. In commemoration of this fact, a large figure was erected in gray stone in 1953. In this space the Festa del Timbaler is also celebrated, an event in which the battle and retreat of the Napoleonic army is recreated as well such as a children's parade and floral offerings.
Numerous routes leave from El Bruc that can be done on foot or by bike and that allow you to enjoy natural places of great beauty. One of the most well-known is the one that reaches the Montserrat Mountain Natural Park. Another interesting route is the PR-C 78. It passes through places such as the Can Maçana natural park, the Camell de Sant Jeroni or the torrent del Migdia, a place with aerial jumps of up to fifteen meters.
