Curiosities of Alfés
Alfés, as its name suggests, has an Arab origin. The locality was badly affected after the Civil War, as the republican airfield was located near the town. It is for this reason that few old houses are preserved.
Alfés is located in a plain with subdesert characteristics, crossed by the river Set, without water in times of drought. Its most important economic activity is rainfed agriculture, mainly the cultivation of oats, olive and almond trees.
What can you visit in Alfés during your stay in a holiday cottage?
At the top of the hill of the small town of Alfés you will find the
Romanesque church of Sant Pere i la
Vileta , the old fortress of the fortified town and from where the views are unsurpassed.
Also, leaving the town, just to the right are the ruins of the
oil mill , from the s. XIX, and on the other side of the road, those of the
flour mill . If you go in the direction of
Lleida, you will pass through
Tossal del Vinfaro , where there are the remains of the
castle that Ramon Berenguer IV granted to Arnau de Montpaó in 1148.
Approximately 2 km from Alfés, in the direction of
Aspa and on the banks of the river Set, there are some
cave paintings , which have been dated to the Neolithic and which form a set of 3 figures.

If you come to this town of Segrà, visit the steppe landscape of Alfés The denomination includes up to 21 spaces from all the counties of Lleida and Alfés is a very illustrative example; it is very well preserved and stands out from the rest due to the orography, little modified by agricultural activity. And you cannot miss the visit to the airfield , where, among other things, there is a trench that will lead you to a circular anti-aircraft machine gun nest, dug into the ground. Water and fuel tanks were also dug into the natural terrain.
