According to this legend, the continuous struggles between Arabs and Christians for the conquest of the territory encouraged the Christians, once the town was conquered, to build a cannon to attack the Arabs who tried to enter the territory from Lleida. The order to attack was "to the cannon!", and that's where the name the town ended up getting comes from.
