In this post we suggest 6 different ways to discover the city of Girona that escape from the conventional visits and that will allow you to discover corners and stories of the city that you perhaps do not know yet.
1. Through its legends

The city of Girona is surrounded by a host of legends that help us to understand some of the historical events of the city. A good way to get to know the city and some of its most hidden corners is through its legends, stories where witches, demons and other magical beings are the main characters that will take you to locations and places in the city that not everyone knows about.
2. Visiting the city's museums

Girona is a city with a great cultural wealth, including its museums. We invite you to visit some of Girona's museums to discover the history and culture of the city. A way of discovering the city protected from the inclemency of the weather: heat, cold or rain. Some of the most visited museums are the Cinema Museum, the Archaeological Museum, the Art Museum, the History Museum, the Jewish Museum and the Cathedral Museum. If you like museums, don't miss our post where we talk about the museums on the Costa Brava.
3. Getting lost in the old quarter

One of the main attractions of the city of Girona is its old quarter. You can take a self-guided tour or hire a guided tour from any of the companies that offer these services. Some of the most visited tourist attractions in the city are the Jewish Quarter, the Cathedral, the city walls, the Arab Baths, the Rambla de Girona, the bridges that cross the river and the houses on the River Onyar. You can ask for a map and more information at the tourist office on Rambla de la Llibertat.
4. During the city's main events

The city of Girona organises multiple activities and events throughout the year, such as guided tours, concerts and music and dance festivals, theatre, circus, exhibitions, open days and the Girona Temps de Flors (Girona's flower festival).
The city's most important event is its main festival: the Sant Narcís Fairs. They take place every year between the last weekend of October and the first weekend of November. It is a good opportunity to visit the city of Girona and enjoy some of the best-known popular activities, such as the ascent of the pillar of 4 up the steps of the cathedral (a human tower that goes up the stairs of the Cathedral), the castellera day, the craft fairs, the parade of the giants, the sardana dances, concerts, the barracas, the correfoc and, of course, the fairgroung rides under the trees in the Parc de la Devesa.
5. Playing an Urban Escape

An urban escape is an activity between a gymkhana and an outdoor room escape. A fun and participative way of getting to know different areas of the city by following the clues and solving the different enigmas that are posed to you in order to get to the next location. An activity for all ages, with different themes and levels of difficulty that you can do with your family, friends and even work colleagues, as the Naturaki office team did in September 2023. We had a wonderful time!
6. With a film tour

A good way to get to know Girona's old quarter is also to discover the different locations that have been used as filming locations for internationally acclaimed films and television series. Some of the best known are the film Perfume: The story of a murderer, an adaptation of the novel by Patrick Süskind, directed by Tom Tykwer (2005), The Monk by director Dominik Moll (2010) and, more recently, the series Game of Thrones, in which during the sixth season different areas of Girona's old quarter became locations for the series. You'll find different companies offering guided and self-guided tours of the Game of Thrones locations filmed in the city of Girona.
We love Girona: its architecture, its history and culture, its gastronomy and, above all, its people. We encourage you to discover Girona in an alternative, different and original way.
Be careful with this city, they say that Girona is a city to fall in love with!
