The year 2020 has marked a global scale turning point. The pandemic caused by COVID provoked that companies and workers have had to adapt to a new work methodology: teleworking. What began as a one-off event has begun to take root in our environment. Many of us have been able to enjoy the benefits of teleworking and even greater productivity of people in this environment has been demonstrated.
Despite the advantages of teleworking, adapting to it is not always easy. That is why today we offer you 10 tips so that telework is profitable for you and that your productivity can be the maximum!
1. Set a routine and schedule
It can often be complicated, as there may be someone else at home, family life tightens you up or you are easily entertained at home. Try to set a schedule as similar as possible to what you have in the company and maintain the routines. Being at home doesn't mean you have to work more or less than you normally do or that you have to stop the coffee break, the afternoon meeting, or the shower when you wake up.
2. Take a shower and get dressed
Good hygiene is paramount to feeling good about yourself. Just because you don't have direct contact with co-workers doesn't mean you can work in your pyjamas! Maintain your usual morning routine, shower, get dressed, have breakfast, make the bed (if you do) and when you sit in the desk chair have everything ready to work!
3. Design your home office
And that involves a desk, an ergonomic chair and enough space for the necessary documents. Comfort and technology should be the same as what you have in the office. Get off the couch and leave the laptop! It would be ideal if it were a separate space from the main part of the house, in order to be able to disconnect on weekends and outside working hours. A room with light and well ventilated, where you can close the door and be well-concentrated. If you can't, headphones with noise cancellation always go great ;-)
4. Keep in touch with workmates
Working from home does not mean that you have to stop talking to your office mates. What's more, a weekly meeting is more than recommended, and not only to catch up on work issues, you can also take some time to talk about more personal issues, tell them how the week went. Socializing is highly necessary.
5. Take short breaks and disconnect
Look for a place to unwind, especially not the sofa nor the bed! It can be a balcony or terrace where you can ventilate for a while, have a coffee or an infusion calmly and take the opportunity to do some stretching. Make time to take a break and don't overdo it. Of course, avoid doing chores that you have pending from home during these times.
6. Avoid distractions
At home, you sure have a thousand distractions: the pet, the cell phone, the television, Netflix, the dishes to wash, the washing machine to put on, the neighbour who comes to greet you, the novel you have in half. Avoid distractions, there is a time for everything, and work time is for work. When you're done, it's time to continue with that series so interesting that it devours your hours.
7. Pact with the family
In the event that there are partners and children in your home, agree with them so that you can have a space for yourself and that they are clear that at that time you cannot be bothered. Kids understand a lot more things than we think, and if you tell them that for the time you need you have to be in the office working and that they can only come if there is something really important they are sure they know how to respect. The same with a partner, friends, colleagues or whoever lives with you.
8. Move
Just because you have to work from home now doesn't mean you can be a week without going out. Maintain an active life, move, keep exercising (or start exercising if you didn't). Go shopping, go out with friends, take a walk. Get some air!
9. Keep the refrigerator away
This will prevent you from being tempted to snack between main meals. If you still can't avoid it, have healthy foods, such as fruit, cereals and so on. Avoid processed food and keep meal times fixed. And since you're at home, try to do it the right way and avoid eating in front of the computer.
