A highly recommended activity during your stay in a rural house is to go on a cycling trip. Traveling by bike will allow you to visit and get to know the surroundings and the territory in a different way: calmly, in the open air, and in contact with nature.
It is very important to take time to organise your cycling holiday so that you can fully enjoy the experience and avoid making mistakes and getting into trouble that can easily be avoided.
For this reason, we have prepared some tips to keep in mind when organizing your bicycle trip that we hope will help you have an incredible experience on two wheels.
Tips for a cycling trip:
1. Choose the right route:

Research and select routes that realistically match your and your group's skill and endurance levels, in a way that allows you to realistically enjoy the experience, not suffer through it. Consider the distance, terrain, and climate of the place. You can use cycling-specific apps or maps to help. You can also ask for information at tourist offices, from the owners of the rural house, or from local companies specializing in cycle tourism.
2. Check your bike:

Before starting the route, make sure that your bicycle is in perfect condition. Perform a complete maintenance check: inspect the brakes, tires, chain, and gears. If you are not sure how to do it, consider taking it to a professional. If you choose to rent the bicycle, seek advice from the rental company and explain to them what kind of route you want to do so they can recommend the appropriate type of bicycle and make sure that it is delivered to you in perfect condition and fully adjusted to your size.
3. Pack smartly:

The best and most comfortable way to carry your luggage is to use panniers and avoid using backpacks on your back, because even with little weight, your back may start to tire after a while. Carry only what is essential so as not to overload the bike. Include repair tools, a first aid kit, clothing suitable for the weather, and enough water and snacks. Distribute the weight evenly in side bags or a cycling backpack.
4. Plan your stops:

Plan in advance where you will stop along the route: places to rest, water fountains to refill bottles, places to visit, and places to eat. If you plan to eat at a restaurant, it is highly advisable to always make a reservation in advance to avoid surprises.
5. Hydration and nutrition:

Drink water continuously, especially on the hottest days. Even if you have a reservation for lunch, always carry some food in case you need to recover energy during the journey: nuts, fruits, etc.
6. Dress appropriately:

Wear comfortable clothing suitable for cycling. We advise you to carry several layers that you can add or remove depending on the weather. Do not forget to bring sunglasses and a cap or scarf for your head.
7. Protect yourself from the weather:

Always wear sunscreen and avoid cycling during the hottest hours of the day. Be prepared for unexpected changes in the weather, therefore, do not forget to bring a raincoat.
8. Safety:

Always wear a helmet. If you expect to cycle in low visibility conditions, it is highly advisable to equip the bicycle with lights and wear reflective elements. Do not forget to carry a mobile phone with a fully charged battery in case you have any emergency during the route, and if you are going alone, inform someone you trust of your intended route.
9. Respect traffic rules:

Make sure to know and follow the traffic rules of the place where you are going. Be respectful of drivers, other cyclists, and pedestrians.
10. Prepare your physical condition:

It is always a good idea to train a bit before embarking on a bicycle trip, especially if you're planning to do it with kids, so they get used to being on a bicycle for a good while. This will allow everyone to enjoy the journey more and foresee whether you will be able to complete the route or if it needs to be adjusted.
