Prehistoric remains have been found in the municipality. One of the most important in all of Catalunya are the Molí de Salt archaeological sites. The town was officially founded in 1151. The municipality of Vimbodí i Poblet is linked to the monastery of Poblet, a building that attracts thousands of visitors every year. The historic center of the town also has buildings of great interest such as the Gothic church of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

The Poblet monastery is one of the architectural treasures of the Conca de Barberà and the Cistercian route. It was founded in 1151 and is an exponent of Cistercian architecture. The monastery consists of a large church, cloister and adjacent buildings. It has been the burial place of Catalan kings. Its Romanesque-Gothic architecture and stained glass windows reflect a great artistic legacy. Its extensive grounds include forests and vineyards, with a wine-producing winery. The monastery has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Currently, a community of more than thirty monks lives there.

The Poblet forest is crossed by numerous hiking trails. If you walk around inside you can enjoy a landscape of great beauty. Also depending on the time of year you can find mushrooms.
