The first settlers of Solsona were the Romans who called the town Setelsis. The cultural and historical wealth of this town can be seen in its set of streets, museums and religious buildings. Solsona has a reputation for making high quality knives and sausages. Its gastronomy offers very tasty dishes made with local products. They highlight the meats and mountain rices as well as their selection of mushrooms. Be sure to try the sweet and savory cakes and pastries.
Solsona has a very important historical heritage. One of the best-known buildings in the town is the Cathedral of Santa Maria, a Gothic-style building built on top of an old Romanesque temple. Inside there is a stone carving of Our Lady of the Cloister. Very close to the cathedral is the Palau Episcopal, a neoclassical building from 1779 that currently houses the Catalan Diocesan Museum.
Popular traditions and festivals are deeply rooted in Solsona. One of the most important events is the Carnival with a great participation by the villagers . Other very relevant festivals are Corpus Christi or the meeting of giants where giants, tadpoles, the Dragon and other fantastic beings participate.
