Sant Joan Despí was known in Roman times as Vico Miziano. The passage of the Camí Reial during the 18th century favored the development of the town. Although in its territory there are lands that are dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and fruits, its main economic activity is industry. Strolling through its streets you will see local shops where you will find lots of fresh produce from the Llobregat delta. You can take advantage of your stay to visit nearby towns such as Sant Feliu de Llobregat or Sant Just Desvern.
Modernist architecture is very important in Sant Joan Despí. There are many buildings built during this period. One of the best known is Can Negre, the work of Josep Maria Jujol. It is an old farmhouse that was renovated with a unique sgraffito and decoration. You must also see the torre de la Creu, which has details with polychrome ceramics.
Although it has a large urban area, Sant Joan Despí offers you numerous green areas where you can relax. One of the best known parks is the Parc del Mil-lenari which has an extension of more than 15000 m2. It has different recreation areas for the rogue and many benches in the shade so you can rest or read your favorite book. If you get close to the banks of the Llobregat river, you have designated areas for picnics.
