Queralbs is the village of Ripollès that best represents the ideal of a mountain village. A town located in the Ribes valley which is, curiously, one of the largest municipalities in Catalonia, with more than 93 square meters. Are you excited to discover it?
During the Middle Ages, Queralbs was an important enclave on the route to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Núria, a place of pilgrimage and religious devotion located in a nearby mountain valley. The village grew up around this route and became a stopping point for pilgrims on their way to the shrine. In the 19th century, Queralbs experienced an important development thanks to the textile industry and forestry.
Queralbs retains its medieval charm with cobbled streets and traditional stone houses, which are well worth a visit. However, if you spend a few days in the town, you can't miss the church of Sant Jaume (12th century), an important example of Romanesque architecture with one of the best arched porches in all of Catalonia. Another remarkable church is that of Sant Sadurní , in Fustanyà, also Romanesque (9th century) and quite well preserved. Finally, we recommend that you take the rack train, which in twenty minutes goes up to the Núria valley, and visit the sanctuary with the famous Romanesque carving of the Virgin Mary.
Queralbs is a popular destination for lovers of nature and mountain sports, as it is surrounded by impressive mountain landscapes and offers access to the Fonts del Llobregat Natural Park and the Vall de Núria . You can also follow the millenary shepherds' routes that go through the neighboring towns of Fustanyà or Serrat or walk the Camí Vell de Núria. Other shorter excursions are those that discover the abundant springs and mines, such as the Miners' Path or the Salt del Grill. If what you want is to practice sport, in winter you can opt for alpine skiing and mountain skiing, and the rest of the year, for climbing, mountaineering, speleology or cycle tourism, among others
