The first documents that refer to Monistrol de Montserrat are from the year 942. Apart from the Monestir de Montserrat, the town has a set of buildings and historical elements of great interest. The Gothic bridge over the Llobregat stands out. It was built in 1317 and connects the two parts of the town.
One of the best-known places in the municipality is the monastery of Montserrat. This cenobi has more than a thousand years of history and is one of the main spiritual references in Catalonia. The abbey is from the 16th century and has a Renaissance style. Inside is the carving of Our Lady of Montserrat also known as La Moreneta. It is worth listening to the escolania, one of the oldest choirs in Europe.
The surroundings of Monistrol de Montserrat invite you to go on excursions with the family. Many itineraries of different levels of difficulty leave from the center of the town. One of the best-known routes is the one that goes from the Font Gran to the Font de les Gilleumes. You can also take the PR-C 19 that goes from Monistrol to the Montserrat portal. It has a distance of 24 kilometers and a height difference of more than 800 meters. Within the municipality there is also a space where you can practice climbing. One of the most famous climbs is that of Cavall Bernat.
