The first written references to Moià are from the 10th century. During part of its history it was one of the reference textile centers in Catalonia. Strolling through the historic center you can see very interesting buildings such as the church of Santa Maria , a baroque construction that has a bell tower 52 meters high. Be sure to visit the Museu-Casal Natal de Rafael Casanova, a space where you can get to know the figure of the hero of the defense of Barcelona in 1714.
One of the best-known spaces in Moià are the Toll caves. They are considered one of the most relevant prehistoric groups of the Quaternary. The sum of the depth of its cavities reaches 1148 meters. In its interior, human and animal remains have been found that are between 40,000 and 100,000 years old and are exhibited in the Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of Moià.
The natural environment of Moià is perfect for hiking. You can take the opportunity to visit the Moianès plateau, where routes such as the GR-177 pass through places such as Calders or Santa Maria d'Oló. If you want to see the most emblematic peak of the Moianès, you can go as far as Puig Rodó, where there is also a dolmen. Many of the routes can be done on foot or by bicycle and allow you to discover spaces of great historical and architectural interest.
