The first written references to the town are from the year 867. Marganel's natural surroundings invite you to take long walks with a view of the Montserrat massif. Discover its winemaking tradition

Marganell is one of the towns with the most wine-growing tradition in Bages. Walking through its territory you will find paths that lead into agricultural fields and where there are also vineyard huts, one of the most typical rural buildings in the area.

Take a Romanesque route

As in other Bages municipalities, Marganell has an important Romanesque heritage. There is a six kilometer route that allows you to see first hand some of the most important Romanesque buildings as well as admire some splendid views of Montserrat. Some of the best-known churches are the church of Sant Cristòfol or that of Sant Jaume de Castellbell, both from the 12th century. You will also see the monastery of Santa Cecília de Montserrat which dates from the 10th century.
