The first written documents that refer to the Prat de Llobregat are from the year 965, when it came under the control of the monastery of Sant Cugat. Its airport stands out, which was built in 1941 and is the most relevant in Catalunya. Walking through its streets you can see some of the jewels of its architectural heritage. One of the best-known buildings are the Puig Houses,
which date from 1784. You must also see the Balcells Tower
, which was a summer house from 1850.
In El Prat de Llobregat there are also many parks and gardens where you can enjoy nature. If you want to skate, there is a skating circuit in the gardens of Andalusia
. In the botanical garden of Parc Àngel Guimerà
you will see a wide variety of aromatic plants.
One of the most outstanding natural spaces in the Baix Llobregat
region is the Llobregat Delta Protected Natural Area.
It is an extensive plain that is located between the massif of Garraf
and Montjuïc and that protects the entire area of wetlands and lagoons. Its biological importance is crucial because it forms part of the migratory routes of many birds. Throughout the Natural Area you will find many itineraries that are equipped with observation towers from where you can see the native flora and fauna.
The presence of statues is deeply rooted in el Prat de Llobregat. In fact, they are spread over many corners of the municipality such as the accesses to the airport or in its parks and gardens. Some of the best-known statues are the one of Mil-lenari which is in the garden of the Pica d'Estats or the one of the Child and the Sargantana which you will find in Plaça de la Vila.
