The first written documents in which Barbens is named are from the year 1099. During part of its history it was under the jurisdiction of the Templars until in 1237 it passed into the hands of the Hospitallers. If you walk around the outskirts of the town you can see plantations of fruit trees of great beauty.

Agriculture is one of the main economic activities in Barbens. One of the most prominent crops is the apple. Every year in the month of October the Apple and Templars Fair is held. During this event the streets of the town are decorated and stalls are set up with the apples that are grown in the municipality. In addition, the legacy of the Templars is remembered and a medieval market is set up with theatrical performances.

Visit the most emblematic buildings

Strolling through the old town of Barbens you will be able to see a set of buildings of great relevance. One of the best known is the castle. Its origin dates back to the 12th century. On the one hand, it preserves medieval elements such as the Arcades room. On the other hand, due to a comprehensive reform, the main facade was modified and some side galleries were added. If you walk through the church square you will see two houses that have great historical value, namely Cal Alçamora and Cal Veciana. Don't forget to see the church of Santa Maria, a building from the year 1098 that preserves a barrel vault from the 18th century.
