In the main square you can see a
Gothic crossfrom 1608, which was guarded by the monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallés during the Civil War and which now occupies its place again after being restored. And if you have already been to the main square, you will have been impressed by the
church of Sant Miquel , a magnificent baroque temple from the s. XVIII.
Also, at number 24 of Carrer Major, you will find an old house that was the
town's prison , which is why you will see the old coat of arms of the house of the Montcadas, Marquises of
Aitona, on the door.
A very interesting place is the
well of Almatret , an Islamic or previous construction, made with cut stone and mortar, which accompanies a structure of eleven laundries, which are believed to have belonged to the 11 families that populated Almatret.
In the town's main square, you will see
La Font , which pays tribute to the arrival of running water in the town in 1963.
The entire municipality invites you to stroll and enjoy the landscape, as is the case in the
Tossals d'Almatret , a protected natural space, formed by large limestone buttresses, from where the Ebro can be seen in all its splendor. One of the main attractions, in addition to observing the flora and fauna, are the great panoramic views and the fantastic routes and itineraries that allow you to discover
trenches and mines from the Civil War and the Battle of the Ebro .
We suggest you follow the GR-99 route, known as the
Ebro path , which has Almatret at the end of stage 36 (Mequinença-Almatret) and at the beginning of stage 37 (Almatret-
Flix). And if you prefer to travel the river, there are several companies that offer the possibility of
Kayaking .
You can enjoy many
routes on foot or by bike and fantastic viewpoints, which you can find information about on the town hall's website.
And for
fishing enthusiasts, paradise is in the
Riba-roja lake , well known internationally for its catfish and carp.
