In the past, Algerri grew from the castle. For many years it was the border between Christian and Saracen territories. A good time to visit the town is when the major festivals are celebrated. In the winter there is the festival of Candelera and Saint Blaise and in the summer the major festival is celebrated in honor of Saint Bartholomew.

Stroll through its urban center

In the urban center of Algerri there are buildings and monuments that come from the medieval period. In one of the highest areas of the town are the remains of the castle. It was built by the Saracens and in the 16th century it passed into the hands of the abbots of Poblet. Inside you can see the remains of the Sant Miquel chapel. Another very interesting building is the church of Santa Maria, a building of Gothic origin that has a Baroque altar.

The Serra Llarga, a place for outdoor activities

Algerri is located in a natural environment that offers you many possibilities. Very close to the town you will find the Serra Llarga. This area stands out for having a unique Guixenca geology that you can discover by walking. On the other hand, there is also a great wealth of scenery with abundant fields of rain-fed crops and dry meadows. If you like fishing, you can approach the passage of the Noguera Ribagorçana river where there is a fishing ban.
