The first settlements that have been found in Abrera are from the Iberian period. However, in the Roman era, several towns were built on its territory. Although industrial activity is currently one of its main economic activities, the municipality still preserves a great natural and cultural heritage.

On the one hand, if you like ornithology, there are areas enabled for bird watching in the Llobregat River. On the other hand, there is also a wide gastronomic offer based on traditional cuisine restaurants.

One of the main attractions of Abrera is that it has managed to grow while maintaining the charm of a small rural municipality. In fact, until the end of 1800 the main economic activity of the town was agriculture, especially the cultivation of vines and oil or cereals such as wheat. However, walking through its streets you will be able to see buildings of great historical interest such as the church of Sant Pere. This building dates from the 10th century and is a clear representation of Romanesque art in Catalonia. Other buildings that you must visit are the hermitage of Sant Hilari or the castle of Voltrera.

Walk through its natural areas

Around Abrera you will find marked hiking routes that you can do on foot or by mountain bike. Some of the best known are Torrent Gran or Riera del Morral del Molí. You can also get close to the banks of the Llobregat, where you will see a river landscape of great beauty with a large number of indigenous flora and fauna species.
