Sorry, but we don't have any accommodation in Vallès Occidental
In towns such as Sabadell or Sant Cugat del Vallès, vestiges have been found that correspond to the Age of Metals. There has also been a strong Roman presence, especially in Terrassa which was an ancient Roman municipality in the year 73. The Middle Ages are also present in the whole region as evidenced by the numerous monuments and buildings that populate the entire territory. On the other hand, industrial activity, especially textiles, has been one of its main economic drivers.
Vallès Occidental has an important natural heritage. Throughout its territory you will find many hiking routes that you can do both on foot and by bike. Much of its terrain has a very good orography, which makes many of the routes suitable for all ages. On the other hand, many of its municipalities have considerable green areas with facilities for the rogue.
Culture is another attraction of the region. The presence of museums is numerous and allows you to learn a good part of its industrial past. Don't forget to try its gastronomy based on traditional dishes.
The textile industry has been one of the main economic activities in Vallès Occidental. Two of the main centers of this activity are Sabadell and Terrassa. In fact, in the 19th century Sabadell was the first woolen textile center in the entire peninsula. Its urban landscape still preserves some unique buildings as well as steamers and chimneys from that time. Some of the most prominent buildings are Cal Sampere, Vapors Codina, Badia or Buxeda Vell.
In Terrassa there is also an important industrial presence with a strong link to its modernist heritage. Some of the most remarkable buildings are Casa Alegre de Sagrera, Casa Baltasar Gorina, Magatzem Torras or Masia Freixa.
Although industrial activity is increasingly important throughout the region, agriculture still has its weight. In Castellbisbal you will find the Museu de la Pagesia, where you can learn first-hand what the town's agricultural past is like and how farm work is carried out. You should also visit the Museu de Tractor d'Època, where you will see all kinds of agricultural machinery and more than 100 models of tractors.
Very close you will find the Masia de Ca N'Oliveró. A space where you will discover the whole world of organic farming such as the cultivation method or the benefits it brings to food.
If you like history and in particular the Middle Ages, many of the municipalities in Vallès Occidental have a considerable medieval heritage. One of the main attractions is that many of the buildings are in a very good state of conservation, so you will have the feeling of traveling back in time. One of the most emblematic buildings is the monastery of Sant Cugat. Its cloister is a Romanesque jewel and inside you can see an exhibition of architecture from the time. At the top of La Mola is the monastery of Sant Llorenç. It is a set that has its origin in the 11th century and from which you can enjoy magnificent views.
In Palau-solità i Plegamans is the Plegamans Castle, a Gothic-style building that houses the Folch i Torres Museum-Archive. Don't forget to visit the Torre del Palau in Terrassa either. It dates from the 11th century and is the only remaining witness of the Castle of Terrassa.
Vallès Occidental stands out for having different centers with varied themes distributed among its municipalities. In Sabadell you must visit the History Museum and the Art Museum. In both museums see very interesting pieces ranging from prehistory to the present, as well as an important fund of archaeological pieces or works of art by local artists. In Terrassa , the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalunya stands out, a space dedicated to the evolution of science and where you will discover collections with electronic devices or transport, among others.
The tribe of the Laietans has had a marked presence in the territory of the Western Vallès. A clear oyster is the Iberian town of Ca n'Oliver. It is located in the municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallès and contains a whole series of archaeological gems that will allow you to understand what the day-to-day life of this tribe was like between the 6th and 1st centuries BC. Its permanent exhibition has more than 2000 m2 and all kinds of cultural activities are organized for all audiences.
Vallès Occidental has a wide variety of green spaces where you can breathe fresh air and do many outdoor activities. You can take advantage of your stay and visit natural spaces such as Montserrat, Montseny or Sant Llorenç de Munt i l'Obac. There are many hiking routes that you will find signposted throughout the territory and that you can do both on foot and by mountain bike. In addition, the topography of the land is very good, so you can plan excursions with the whole family. If you visit one of the region's peaks, you can enjoy splendid views of the entire Vallès.
Popular culture and traditions are deeply rooted in the Western Vallès. One of the most important celebrations is the Three Tombs. This festival is celebrated by Sant Antoni Abad and in many of the municipalities animal parades, popular lunches and coques and mistela are given to taste. The Three Tombs of Ripollet is one of the best known and has even been declared a Local Festival of Tourist Interest.
Vallès Occidental is a land rich in local products such as wines, oils, cheeses, etc. Many of the producers open the doors of their premises to publicize their products. In Ullastrell you will find the Celler de Can Morral del Molí, a family farm dedicated to the organic cultivation of vines and olive trees. Ca n'Oliveró is in Castellbisbal. An old farmhouse dedicated to the ecological production of wines and garden products. If you like cheese, in Vacarisses there is the La Frasera cheese shop. In their facilities you can see the entire manufacturing process of their artisanal cheeses.
The gastronomy of Vallès Occidental stands out for its quality and for using local ingredients. In its municipalities you will find restaurants in places as special as old farmhouses or historic buildings. One of the most well-known dishes in the region is rabbit soup, a dish in which vegetables are cooked with rabbit ribs. You must also try the sausage with dried beans. If you like mushrooms there are many dishes based on rovellons and llanega. For sweet lovers, we recommend the Xatos, the Belgians or the Glóries.
Although Vallès Occidental has a strong industrial fabric, it also stands out for having many urban parks in its municipalities. These green areas are true lungs and offer spaces for reading and resting in the shade as well as areas for children's games. In Sabadell you will find Can Gambús Park or Catalunya Park. In Terrassa is the Vallparadís Park. Don't forget to visit Parc Turó de Can Mates in Sant Cugat del Vallès either.
