What can you do in Penelles and its Holiday cottages?

Remains of Iberian, Roman and Visigoth settlements have been found in Penelles. During part of its history it was in the hands of the Knights Templar. Later and until the 19th century it passed into the hands of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. From the center of the town there are paths that you can take on foot or by bike that pass through places such as the Camí de la Plana or the Canal d'Urgell.

Experience the GarGar Murals and Rural Art Festival

One of the main tourist attractions of Penelles are the dozens of murals that can be found on many walls in the town. These works are done while the GarGar festival is being celebrated. In this event, artists from all over the world come and create their works in the buildings of Penelles. All this means that there is an open-air museum with very original works.

Visit the Remei Castle

In Penelles there are different buildings of great interest. One of the best known is the Castle of Remei. It is an architectural complex where wine is produced with the DO Costers del Segre. The winery stands out for being the first to produce bottled wine in Catalonia. The castle building has four towers with battlements and the sanctuary of Our Lady of Remei. Very close to the castle is the church of Sant Joan Baptista. It has a modernist style and was built in the middle of the 20th century.
