What can you do in Organyà and its Holiday cottages?

The first written documents that refer to Organyà are from the year 839. During the autumn, the town is filled with mushroom pickers who go into the Aubenç or Boumort mountains in search of mushrooms. These mountains are also perfect for adventure sports such as paragliding or hiking and mountain biking.

A unique medieval past

Organyà is the first municipality in which the first text in Catalan has been found, specifically Les Homilies. At the town's Tourism office you can see a reproduction of the text, given that the original is in the Library of Catalonia. Walking through the center of the town, you will see cobbled streets and houses with balconies full of flowers. Be sure to visit the Romanesque church of Santa Maria that dates from the 12th century. You must also see the Pontarrons, a set of medieval bridges that linked Organyà with Seu d'Urgell.

Popular culture is deeply rooted in Organyà. Every year during the month of November, the Sant Andreu d'Organyà Fair is organized. It is an event that has its origins in the twelfth century, when animals from neighboring counties were bought and sold for a week. Currently you can see a display of artisan products as well as agricultural machinery.
