The abundant water resources of the Oliana valleys have meant that it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. However, the first written documents that refer to Oliana do not appear until the year 839. If you visit the historic center of the town located in Plaça dels Lledoners you will be able to enjoy splendid views. Take a medieval route

During the Middle Ages Oliana was a closed town. Today, it still preserves narrow cobbled streets, a clear vestige of this medieval past. We also recommend that you visit the church of Sant Andreu del Castell, which was consecrated in 1037 and preserves elements from different periods. On the other hand, in the old convent of the Escolapis there is a chapel that preserves the image of Our Lady of the Angels.

In the past, in Oliana, in order to store and sell the ice from the frozen water of the external ponds, an old ice well was used. At present, this well can be accessed through a tunnel where you can see a permanent exhibition on ice wells.
