The first written references to l'Ametlla del Vallès are from the 9th century. Currently, industry is the main economic activity of the municipality. However, you can still see clear signs of its agricultural past in the farmhouses that are scattered throughout its territory. Some of the most important are Ca l'Arenys, Can Guineu, Can Diví, among others.
Religious architecture is deeply rooted in Ametlla del Vallès. One of the most emblematic buildings is the church of Sant Genís. It was built in 906 and has a Romanesque style. However, during the 17th century it was extended in a baroque style. Its plan is of the basilica type and the apse is covered with a barrel vault. Inside is a carved stone baptismal font dating from the 16th century. Another very relevant building is the hermitage of Sant Nicolau.
The mark left by Modernism is very visible throughout the municipality. Walking through the streets of the town you can see many buildings that have been made in this architectural style. One of the most important is the town hall building that dates back to 1912. You can also visit Cal Barber or the Café del Dr. Bassa which is from the year 1906. Other buildings that are of great relevance are the tower of the Punxa or the house of Dr. Grífols.
