The history of la Garriga goes back to the Middle Ages. The presence of thermal waters have made this town an important tourist reference. In fact, it was one of the main summer resorts for bourgeois families at the beginning of the 20th century. This led to the construction of many modernist buildings that can now be visited.
La Garriga is a municipality with a very extensive history. One of the most relevant elements of the historical heritage of this town is the Roman town of Can Terrés. It was built in the 1st century BC and is in a good state of conservation. It is considered one of the most important rural settlements in Catalonia. Another building you must visit is the parish church of La Doma. It was built in 1492 and is dedicated to Sant Esteve. One of the main attractions is its combination of Romanesque and Gothic elements.
The diversity of natural spaces that you can find in la Garriga allows you to do many outdoor activities. On the one hand, it is very close to Montseny, declared a Biosphere Reserve in 1978. There are many signposted hiking routes where you can see a natural landscape of great beauty. On the other side, the Garriga is to the left of the bank of the river Congost. Walking along its route you will see unique agricultural landscapes.
