The first written documents in which reference is made to Tuixén are from the 9th century. However, it was not until 1973 when Tuixén and Josa del Cadí were united in a single municipality. Popular tradition is deeply rooted in the town. Be sure to visit the Museu de les Trementinaires, a space dedicated to the women who knew the virtues of medicinal plants and who offered their remedies in farmhouses. Also during the month of May, the Festa de les Trementinaires is celebrated, where a fair of herbs, workshops and music shows are organized.

Discover its Romanesque heritage

Throughout much of the territory of Josa i Tuixén you will find Romanesque churches and hermitages. One of the most important is the Romanesque church of Sant Esteve, which still maintains much of its original structure. Inside you can see a polychrome madedéu dating from the 12th century. Other buildings that you must visit are the chapel of Sant Jaume or the church of Santa Maria and its baroque altarpiece.
