What can you do in Gerri de la Sal and its Holiday cottages?

One of the main attractions of Gerri de la Sal is that it still retains its medieval image. One of the most emblematic elements of the town is the medieval bridge of Gerri. It was built at the end of the 11th century and gave access to the Alt Urgell valleys. Walking through the town center you can see the closed village. There are various monuments and buildings that you can see in Gerri de la Sal. One of the best known buildings is the monastery of Santa Maria de Gerri. It was founded in the 9th century and currently only its church remains. Another very interesting building is the Torre de la Pressó. It is a medieval building that is in a good state of conservation. You must also visit the Alfolí de la Sal. It was built in the 16th century and its function was to store the salt that was produced in the town.

Visit the salt pans

The production of salt was one of the main economic activities of Gerri de la Sal. The salt water springs from the Ofita Mine which is located on the right bank of the river and extended through the salt pans that were built on the river bank. From the 20th century, salt production began to decline until in 1982, floods that occurred in the Pyrenees accelerated its deterioration. It wasn't until 1996 when they were declared a Cultural Property of Historical Interest.
