Little history of El Pont de Suert

The Pont de Suert has its origins in the Village of Suert , located on top of some rocks a little southwest of the current town. Documented since 955. the town of Suverte survived until the s. XIII, when it was abandoned to become the current Pont de Suert (1240).

The town and district of El Pont de Suert was given by the counts of Ribagorça around the year 1000 to the monastery of Lavaix, which had dominion until the end of the old regime.

Much of the historical heritage is concentrated in the old quarter , among its network of alleys and squares: the Plaça Major, the Abacial palace, the Plaça del Mercadal, the Carrers Major, Escú, d'Avall ... In this historic complex there is also the Sacred Art Museum of Ribagorça and a little beyond the historic center, the Romanesque bridge of Castillo de Tor (12th century) , which becomes one of the most representative bridges that cross the Noguera Ribagorçana river.

In other towns of the municipality, you can find real works of Romanesque art such as the church of Sant Climent d'Iran , the church of Sant Salvado r and la mare de Déu de les Neus d'Irgo or the church of Santa Maria de Viu de Llevata .

Activities to do from your holiday cottage in El Pont de Suert

There are numerous mountain paths to travel, but we recommend the Camí de la Faiada , which goes from the uninhabited village of Montiberri to the mountain of La Faiada.

You can also stop by the municipality's Fauna Centre , located in a fish farm since 1995, which promotes the defense of native fauna such as the otter and the European mink.

The activities at El Pont de Suert revolve around two main categories, tradition and adventure sports .
