The presence of a necropolis of great archaeological value shows that the territory of Castellar de la Ribera was already inhabited in the Middle Neolithic. During part of its history the town was under the rule of the counts of Urgell and then of Cardona. Be sure to try the local gastronomy based on traditional Catalan dishes.

Visit its religious heritage

Castellar de la Ribera has numerous historical buildings in a very good state of conservation. One of the most relevant is the church of Sant Pere de Castellar, a building dating from the 18th century. You must also see the old parish of Clarà, a Romanesque building with three naves that houses an altarpiece made in 1162 by Feliu Vidal. Another interesting building is the Querol mill, an old medieval flour mill.

Take an excursion through the Ribera Salada valley

The surroundings of Castellar de la Ribera are perfect for excursions in the middle of nature. The river crossing allows you to take short walks and cross very interesting wooded areas. If you want to enjoy splendid views of the valley, you can climb one of the peaks and hills found in the municipality. The most prominent are the Torregassa and the Serrallonga which has an altitude of 1027 meters and is considered the roof of the term. On the other hand, walking through the fields you will see medieval farmhouses as well as water sources.
