Bellmunt d'Urgell passed into the hands of the Christians at the end of the 11th century and the beginning of the 12th. In the 14th century the abbot of Poblet bought the castle and the municipality passed into the hands of the monastery a century later. Although it is in a mountainous area, the low height of its peaks allows for long walks with the whole family. Don't forget to try the gastronomy based on traditional Catalan dishes either.

Throughout Bellmunt d'Urgell you will find many buildings from the medieval period. The parish church of Sant Josep, a building with Gothic and Renaissance elements, is a must-see. Its nave has four side chapels. If you walk along Carrer Major you can see medieval houses with gabled portals. One of the best known is La Botigueta.
