The name Arties comes from the Basque word artean which means between. This refers to the fact that the town is located between two rivers, specifically the Garona and the Valarties. Strolling through the town center you will find many commercial establishments and restaurants where you can taste dishes of traditional Aranese cuisine. Be sure to visit Casa Paulet, a medieval house that still maintains its Aranese appearance and is in a very good state of preservation.

Enjoy its thermal waters

If you want to enjoy a relaxing experience for both body and mind, you can visit the Arties thermal complex, which has sulphurous waters that come out at 39 ºC. The complex has two swimming pools which are located next to the Banhs d'Arties. The waters, having a significant sulfur content, are very good for different skin conditions.

Discover their churches

The Romanesque has left a strong mark on Arties. The church of Santa Maria is one of its greatest exponents . It is declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest and dates from the 12th century. Although its style is Romanesque, Gothic works are preserved inside. Its 15th century altarpiece dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands out. Very close to the church is the castle of Arties, of which a tower is still preserved. Another building of great interest is the Gothic-style church of Sant Joan.
